As I begin this article, let it be known that the perfect bridesmaid dress does not exist. There is no one dress that completely flatters every figure, as well as fits every budget. That being said, there are options which exist to help make the selection a little bit easier.
.) Consider your bridesmaid’s budgets: In my wedding party, I have five bridesmaids. Three of them would have no problem purchasing a pricey Vera Wang bridesmaid dress, while the other two are still in college and can barely afford Ramen noodles. A considerate bride will factor these price issues in when looking for the perfect bridesmaid dress.
.) Consider your bridesmaid’s shapes: I have a variety of dress sizes in my wedding party which range from size 2 to size 22. From 1/4 Length Sleeves Bridesmaid Dresses to 3/4 Length Sleeves Bridesmaid Dresses Realize that a bridesmaid dress that looks fabulous on your small busted bridesmaid may not be as flattering on another girl who has a much larger cup size. On the other hand, one of your bridesmaids may have a pear shaped body (bottom heavy) which can make it difficult when choosing a dress for another bridesmaid who may have a much small waistline. The same principle should be considered when one of your bridesmaids has broad shoulders as opposed to another girl who does not.
.) Consider style: As much as your may adore that fluffy, sequined, tulle Princess Seams Bridesmaid Dresses, most of your bridesmaids will likely not appreciate getting dressed up in a bridesmaid dress that looks like it was made for a five-year old’s first dance recital. Sticking to classic, clean, Empire Waist Bridesmaid Dresses are a much better bet. People will most likely tell you it’s your wedding - do what you want. You should not however do this if you don’t want your bridesmaids to resent you for your style choice. Choose the classical ones for them, such as Natural Waist Bridesmaid Dresses, Cap Sleeves Bridesmaid Dresses. Only the classical wouldn’t be blamed.
.) Consider functionality: Remember that these bridesmaid dresses will be worn not only through the entire ceremony, but also for pictures after and then the reception after that if you’re having one. If it’s going to be a warm day, choose a fabric that is comfortable and won’t have your bridesmaids about to pass out from heat exhaustion. Realize that your bridesmaids will be running around, doing things for you throughout the course of the day - if nothing else, make sure they’re comfortable!
.) Get some outside advice: This was a huge help for me personally. I went in to choose a one size/budget fits all, and simply realized my expectations were too high. I ended up, with the help of the bridal shop owner, choosing a different flattering gown for each bridesmaid as well as ones that weren’t expensive for my bridesmaids which I anticipated having a harder time purchasing. They were all dressed in the same color, just different styles. It was great being able to have this freedom when selecting my bridesmaid dresses.
